Statement
By definition, a weed is a plant growing where it is unwanted. They persist through our walls and sidewalks, and even through abatement, these burgeons are a reminder of reclamation once hands are done interfering. These weeds I have gathered are encapsulated in clay and fashioned together to question what plants are beautiful enough to be arranged. They are homogenous, like bushels in an empty lot on a walk home, but glazed in striking colors that demand to be observed. My sculptural body of work creates an intimate moment with these sprouting bodies by means of encouragement to engage with one's smaller surroundings. Installed in high foot-traffic areas, sometimes hidden from plain sight, a moment can be shared with these blooms and liken the viewer to find space for themselves and create dwellings that are places beyond the home or work to further break down the divide between humans and the natural world.
